A study of the patients that go to teaching outpatient services(2014) ROLAND, M. I. De França; GIANINI, R. J.; AKIYAMA, K.Acupuncuture, a therapeutic strategy of classical Chinese medicine, it began to be quoted in the West in the sixteenth century. After a period of obscurity, it has been used in the treatment of different diseases, acute or chronic. During the second half of the twentieth century it was associated with certain social groups, or people with higher income and education. We studied the broader spectrum of acupuncture patient profiles, as well as the need to consolidate the availability of this service in Brazil within the national health system Sistema único de Saúde (SUS), especially in primary care, given its preventive nature. Using a qualitative approach, the study builds an actor-network theory characterization of acupuncture patients, using the methodology of Bruno Latour and colleagues. Participant observation was conducted in Hospital das Clínicas, University of São Paulo Medical School (HC-FMUSP), and in a private clinic. Twenty five patients receiving outpatient care were interviewed. The results show that patients are mostly female, middle aged and low income, with various health conditions. We found an important demand for acupuncture, which is not met by health care for this kind of people and especially for those with chronic diseases. Acupuncture may also be useful as alternative therapy in cases of nonadaptation to conventional treatments. These results are consistent with the literature. © 2014 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. B.Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century.Obesity plays an important role on the pathophysiological process of high blood pressure and hypertension, clearly involving a chronic inflammatory state. Currently it is strongly believed that sleep plays an important role in hormonal homeostasis modulated by clock genes (e.g., REV-ERBα) of circadian rhythm in the pediatric population. In this line, short sleep duration is a significant risk for childhood obesity; whereas, long sleep duration is suggested to impair whole-body energy metabolism and consequently increase the risk of obesity. In this sense, obesity seems to have a U-shaped relationship with sleep duration. Encouraging sleep recommendations can be an effective effort to prevent and control child obesity. © 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
