Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic, disabling disorder that is characterized by the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions. OCD groups with other related disorders such as body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder, trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder), excoriation (skin-picking) disorder, and other disorders. However, it is important to note that this group of disorders guard close proximity with anxiety disorders. The prognosis of OCD improved dramatically with the introduction of special cognitive-behavioral techniques and the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. At present, researchers attempt to integrate psychological, behavioral, neurochemical, and neuroanatomical findings in a comprehensive psychobiological model of OCD. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
